Metropol Parasol in Seville. In the shade of an umbrella ... huge!

In Seville it is sunny, sunny. It is something we all know. And so the architect J. H. MAYER Architects has created a super-giant parasol to the city where the "rain is pure wonder." The wooden structure, the largest ever built , has an organic, amoeboid holding six columns on a grid of wood with an air of waffle cake.

Begun in 2004 and ended last April, the month Seville par excellence, the Metropol Parasol project these days being sensation in the Red . And no wonder, the Metropol Parasol impressive structure has been a courageous remodeling of the Plaza de la Encarnación , formerly used as parking, and insurance will become the new icon of the city. In the old city center, modern structure is not only shocking but also very useful for space audience at the most Hard summer months, where temperatures easily exceed 40 degrees in the city of the Guadalquivir.

Metropol Parasol offers some attractions for the public including an archaeological museum, a marketplace, an elevated plaza, and of course, many bars and outdoor restaurants, the best and most popular attraction in the city.

The bases are steel reinforced concrete, and the structure is completely of wood covered with polyurethane . The columns are located in the only place that allowed the Romans arquiológicos amount of debris, and the rest of the structure was lifted into the sky as big "mushroom" to build the edficio-umbrella. The shape of the giant umbrella was inspired, according to the architect, in the vaults of the Cathedral of Seville. It's like "a cathedral without walls " as Mayer himself, who wanted to get a building project more democratic and popular seo Seville's colossal.
