Milk Wax Taste In Mouth?

Grace, a volcanic hotel carved into a cliff of Santorini.

architecture studies Divercity (Nikolas Travasaros ) and Mplusm ( Marita Nikoloutsou & Memos Filippidis ) have devised the Santorini Grace Hotel , following the architectural tradition of the Greek island.

The hotel has 20 rooms dug into the side of a cliff , about 300m, with a view to the caldera of Santorini. The discreet design architecture enables the real protagonist is the landscape.

The hotel is designed according to a contemporary interpretation vernacular architecture: the economics of space, radical simplicity and organic shapes. Like the local yposkafa, cave-dwellings with rounded walls and domed roofs carved into the rock, the rooms have no furniture almost free. In contrast bespoke shelves are molded into the walls and niches. Just thick walls, an element of the strengths and historic towers of Santorini, have been used for the construction of those bins.

white interiors and polished concrete floors, continue the tradition white houses of the Cyclades. The rooms are arranged the original stone walls.
Using a technique of local architecture, most used in retaining walls, working with a small amount of mortar, leaving spaces between the stones. By placing the stones are exaggerated spaces between them, resulting in a screen to filter the light, ventilate the rooms, provide privacy and decorate with a curious play of shadows. The stones used are volcanic so outside, draw a striking contrast in black and white. Outside
design rooms follow the geometries broken the contours of the terrain by creating a series of new projections. These irregular lines converge on the slope and the widest level houses the swimming pool, restaurant and bar.

Recently, the Santorini Grace has expanded with a new restaurant-bar, reception and three new rooms. In this case we have chosen dark colors, cavernal space equivalent to the special geology of the island. The reception has a wall built from volcanic stones as the rooms. The restaurant and bar area is painted in dark color volcanic rocks and prismatic geometry resembling a rocky landscape.

The pool is zig-zag the rugged terrain of Santorini. Grace
